We had a wonderful time at my big/wee cousin Al's wedding (Ali is about 6ft 4in - so he's a tall chap, but he's still my wee cousin). He's always referred to as Wee Al by my family. It was so good to see him marrying Chris and it was such a happy day. Hampshire is really pretty and was very hot. Lovely.
Islay the cheeky rascalWe spent Friday night with very good friends who live in Portsmouth. We had fun catching up with them and our kids and their two get on very well. We spent Saturday morning down near the beach catching crabs and fish and playing in the new park. My three were stripped down to their pants and had a whale of a time in the water sprinklers.......our friends' kids thought they were a bit weird for being so enthusiastic about the heat and water... their mum explained to them 'they're Scottish and they do strange things'! Not sure if that's really the reason for their wild behaviour but I guess it might have something to do with their tolerance of cold.
All five of us changing in my youngest brother Donald's hotel room, alongside Donald and the best man (thanks Don and E) who were in a rush to get on with best man and ushering duties, worked surprisingly well but when I looked at the photos I realised that in the mayhem I must have forgotten to brush my hair - oops! John's bowtie broke at the last minute, mum produced a sewing kit so I could sew him into it, but Don had a spare bowtie and saved John's neck from needle attack.
Finn and Angus - two very different boysThen off to the wedding (kids in clean dry pants as well as smart clothes!). They were married in the little village church that Chris grew up attending. I managed my reading without any major hiccups and Nat, Al's big sister, gave her reading so well. She really put her heart and soul into it.
Angus fell in the burn that ran along the village green, outside the church, not once but twice. And do you know what? It's not really surprising. That's just him. I'm always quite thankful, in a distorted kind of way, when he comes home from school with a bump note (and it happens most weeks) - at least he hurts himself when other people look after him too and not just when I'm supposed to be taking care of him.
Introducing the children to my Italian cousin Mirella, three little monkeys, John and my parentsSadly, I don't think I should post any photos of Al and Chris because I haven't asked them so I've included a few of us and the kids. They sooooo enjoyed the elderflower cordial in big people glasses.
Things felt a bit flat on Sunday and Monday after all the excitement and anticipation but we're back into the normal swing of things again.....and I'm going to be working away at the pininc blanket tomorrow.

Looks like it was a wonderful day for everyone, I do love a good wedding! The kids drinking out of 'big people glasses' made me laugh, mine love to do that. As for the stripping down to their pants and jumping in water, mine do that at any and every opportunity, in fact you've reminded me that the last family Wedding I went to, F (then only just 4, to be fair) striped down to his pants in the family pub where the reception was held (and half the pub was open to normal customer) with me chasing him around trying to get his clothes back on. Still, felt worse for my cousin as her little boy took EVERYTHING off.
Hope the flat feeling goes quickly. Bx
Sounds like yoou had a fine time, the weather was kind and it is supprising how much warmer it is down south. Your children are beautiful and the dress looks suberb.
Thank you for your kind words on my post, sorry I was feeling a little self centred this morning
That looks like such a great day!
My son (only 14 mos old) fell off the flat cart in the check-out line at Ikea this weekend... I have a feeling I'll be able to relate to what you said about your Angus... My husband said it's because he's a boy...
Sounds like a lovely wedding and I must say (even though we can only see the back) your dress looks stunning.
Also love the comment about your kids being weird, what's not to love about playing in sprinklers regardless of the heat!
Looks like you all had a lovely time! Justine xx
Looks like you had a great time, I like a man in a kilt, think they look quite sexy ! :D
Beth - Your family wedding must have been fun but a bit manic - I only just managed to get Islay to keep her pants on at the park! I actually think its a good thing they don't care about it, much better than being modest at their age. Juliex
Mrs Mad - the warmth certainly makes the south attractive but o'd struggle to cope with how busy it is. I do hope you feel better soon. Juliex
Tracey - I think your husband has a point (Islay still hurts herself a lot more than some little girls as she's quite a tomboy but she is more careful than Finn and Angus)! Poor Steiger that must have been quite a bump. Juliex
Jenny - I used to love playing in sprinklers, ist is so much fun. In fact I still would if it ws warm enough! Juliex
Maria - yes, kilts are good. But a good suit is pretty attractive too I think! Juliex
Your dress looks amazing! I bet you had loads of compliments.
At my (first) wedding, it had been a very hot day and my rather drunk family decided to make use of the outdoor swimming pool but of course hadn't thought to bring swimming costumes. So my dad went in wearing his white y-fronts (I kid you not), my niece in her bra and pants, and my eldest brother (age 42 at the time)...completely naked. And all this in broad daylight, just as my evening guests were arriving!! By the end of the night it was pouring with rain, and half the guests were in the pool fully clothed...suits, silk dresses...all dripping wet!
I hear they didn't allow people to use the pool after that night...no idea why ;)
Oh, I wonder why there is a ban on the pool?! That is a fantastic story, families can be brilliant and excruciating (both embarrassing and funny) at the same time. It sounds like everyone had a fantastic time at your wedding. Juliex
