This is what we get up to........

.....when John is away!

As I mentioned at the end of my last post John was away last week and I wasn't well. On Friday afternoon Islay's nursery had an Eco Garden afternoon which we were all invited to. The kids planted some seedlings and looked at mini beasts and then got to have their faces painted. Islay chose butterflies, Angus chose spiderman.....so far so good and fairly conventional......Finn then asked for Lionel Messi. Now at a push I do know that he is a footballer. But I'd struggle to know much more. Finn, my sports mad wee boy, can tell you his position, club team and nationality and the same for pretty much any other footballer (or rugby, tennis, formula one etc) you care to mention. He discovered that newspapers have sports pages a couple of months ago and we just about have to fight him for access to the newspaper now.

My heart sank when I heard Lionel Messi - how would the nursery nurse cope with that? Well, it turns out that Sheona is a huge football fan. She wasn't the slightest bit phased and didn't need Finn's help with any details and proceeded to paint his face with a no. 10 in Barcelona colours. I was impresssed!

Afterwards we had a fish and chip picnic supper watching the first half of the Jungle Book. This was so much fun for all of us. I really enjoyed the thrill the kids had from doing something that's not normally allowed. I'm pretty strict about television and only usually put it on for 20 to 30 mins while I'm getting the last bit of our evening meal ready and we always sit down properly to eat.

Its so good to break the rules and take the easy option sometimes!

I agree that a bit of rule breaking is good. We always eat out home made pizza on a sat in front of the TV, it is the only night, but they love it. We also all got our PJ''s on and snuggled under sa duvet last night in all that rain

Ha ha, the faces look brilliant, my husband could sypathise over the papers football pages, our Finn does exactly the same, leaving his dad searching the house on a saturday morning ! xx

Mrs Mad - your pj night sounds like fun. Juliex

Anne - she did very well.

Thanks for the comments about the house. We are lucky and it is lovely - the decoration isn't my taste, but I'm pretty lazy about sorting it! Our sitting room is huge - both photos were taken in it. So, one end is sitting room with TV etc and the other end is kids toys, shelves, playpen (for niece) and my sewing table and shelves. It works really well. Juliex

Maria - I wonder if any of the girls will do the same? Juliex

Haha - I did wonder what the middle face was all about ;o) What a talented nursery nurse to manage that!

As for a picnic lunch in front of the Jungle Book - is there anything better as a treat?

Lovely to see the kids, and I'm super impressed with the face painting, I also know nothing about football so would have been completely lost with that request. Oh you are so good, before having kids we thought there would be very strict TV rules but to be honest I've failed rather badly on that one and they watch too much, although luckily we have a great garden so they are mostly outside.

The dress looks fab, love it :)

Your son must be like mine - even when he was tiny, we used to take him to the barber's with pictures of David Beckham to copy the hairdos. He loves Messi too.

Amanda - I love the jungle book too! Juliex

Beth - I think that's one of the reasons we are quite strict. Our garden is quite small, and while they love playing outside, it's not big enough for them to be out as much as I'd really like. Juliex

Lynne - Oh, Finn hasn't worked that out yet. Shhhh! Juliex

Messi is an amazing player it's just a pity I'm a Real Madrid supporter not Barca ... Well done to your nursery teacher
