Blogger's Quilt Festival Spring 2012

I thought it was about time I joined in with the Blogger's Quilt Festival Spring 2012 (if it is new to you it is well worth following the link to take a look at the wonderful entries, so much inspiration).
Thank you to John's dad for holding the quilt up for some photos, he arrived a short while ago and I accosted him before he had a chance to sit down. I don't think he has ever, in his eighty years, been asked to hold a quilt for a photo before!
I've sat on the sidelines often and looked at lots of lovely blog posts about lots of lovely quilts.  In the past I've always felt a little shy and inexperienced, and that hasn't changed, but I love my Sunshine Quilt and should really stop being so silly........so here it is!
I do wish I had taken it outside for proper photos on the, what seems like only, 2 or 3 sunny days in the 9 months since I made it.  It is raining cats and dogs today and the light is terrible.
I made it last August as a quilt for baby Katie who was born a month later.  We didn't know whether she would be a boy or girl so the quilt was made to suit either.  I used some of my favourite fabrics, many from my stash but also a few new ones.
There's a whole range of fabric types in there too - linen, quilting cotton, flannel, and double gauze.  I love all the different textures.  I know it's not all that conventional but I liked mixing them all together.
The back is very soft and snuggly - Nani Iro double gauze.  I'm a little jealous that Katie gets to sleep under it every night.
I used One Flew Over's Geometric Quilt Pattern.  It's the first time I've used a pattern, generally I make things up as I go along, but the design is right up my street and I'd had it in the back of my mind since first seeing it.
The Anna Maria Horner flannel used for the binding doesn't give quite the crisp finish you can get with a quilting cotton but somehow seemed right for this quilt.
I guess calling it Sunshine Quilt wasn't very inspired (I'd love to be able to come up with inspired names....maybe one day).  But I think you can probably see why I've called it that.  And best of all it suits Katie perfectly.  She really is the sunniest little baby you could ever hope to meet.
Thank you very much if you have visited for the first time and read your way through my waffle.  If you'd like to comment I'd be VERY delighted and I'll be busy over the weekend visiting everyone back and finding as many new quilty blogs as possible.

Have I seen this before when you finished it. I think I remember it, or perhaps it was a similar one. I just love the colours, it's a fantastic quilt, I hope you're proud of it.

It's wonderful. I like the block - rather like an elongated Log Cabin. The colours are so soft and cheerful, and the flannel binding is just right.

Hi Julie... I love this quilt! Really gorgeous. And even more so because the backing is my go to backing fabric - I've used it on the quilt I entered as well!

Hello, I love your quilt! I have a thing about grey in quilts - so beautiful. I am making my first quilt at the moment and would like to copy the quilting style you used on this. can you tell me - do you use an ordinary sewing machine? And a walking foot? If you have any tips I would be grateful. Thanks, grace
