Well, it is back to rain again today but we did have a wonderful weekend. We had a walk at
Yellowcraigs -it is probably one of the most popular beaches close to us. And there's a very good reason for that......it is lovely!
The normal route is straight across some coastal grassland to the beach but we like to head off through the woods and out through the dunes. The wild flowers were in full bloom. I don't think I have ever seen so many bumble bees.
Their favourite seemed to be this striking blue flower which I think is viper's bugloss. My botany is a little (actually, a lot) rusty and I stupidly didn't pick a good enough sample to key it out properly - I felt uncomfortable picking samples in such a heavily visited area.
It really was very pretty. I especially liked the big patches of thyme. It reminded me of my student expedition to Iceland. We spent 6 weeks up in the north west of Iceland doing some field work and the locals showed us how to collect thyme for tea. But, again, I didn't like to pick any here.
We enjoyed Moray's company. We really are missing having our own dog.

And on our way back across the dunes we found a huge patch of wild strawberries. They were yummy but we were very restrained and left lots for another day.
All in all it was another fantastic walk.
I am doing a fair bit of sewing, in amongst school holiday busyness, and plan to do some showing soon. I hope the holidays are going well for everyone (and winter is good for those of you in the southern hemisphere!).

What a wonderful beach and the wild flowers too. That looks like vipers bugloss to me we often find patches of him around here.
I love the way you have captured the family in your photos, it is so natural.

It looks like such a pretty place for a walk with all those wild flowers, the kids and dog look like they had the best time.
That viper's bugloss is so pretty - I saw some in Colorado last month but never identified it. I love the picture just below the thyme, with Katie's cute little head sticking up out of the backpack. :)
