Baby number one is my beautiful new (well 6 weeks old now) nephew. I didn't want to miss out my niece so I've made a dolls blanket and pillow for her, and a baby blanket for him. My original plan was to back it in cotton chenille but I didn't have quite enough and was just considering using a border, or adding a patchwork strip to the back, when I had a delivery of organic cotton flannel - that solved my problem, it really is lovely and soft (see baby number two below for some flannel pics and details)!

Baby number two is John's best friend's new little girl. Along with our friends who recently had twins, he and his wife have been longing for children for quite some time. So it is particularly exciting to know that she has arrived safely. Sadly the closest we will be to her for a while is a Skype video call as they live in Colorado.....but we really enjoyed seeing her, and all of her lovely spikey hair, on Sunday!

So, what's the present this time? Well, I'm afraid, its another blanket (they seem to be very well received and I love making them). Just as we heard she had been born I spotted that Saints and Pinners had taken delivery of some Cloud 9 organic flannel from the Forest Friends collection. Unusually for me (maybe because it's forest themed?!) I bought some straight away (altho' I suspect John won't believe this I am usually very cautious about buying fabric, which isn't really like me, and I tend to swither for days before actually going ahead with an order). It is just as lovely as I had imagined and I had fun last night sketching out a design for the blanket.

I must admit to being a bit nervous about showing my scrappy sketch as I'm very conscious of having no artistic talent or art/craft training (unlike so many people who's blogs and sewing I like) - but however scabby it looks this little plan should hopefully soon be transformed into a cosy little flannel blanket to keep a gorgeous little girl warm this cold Colorado winter.
Baby number three is actually baby number four as we have our own little Ruttlet no.4 on the way! I had my 13 week scan last week and was very relieved and excited (and a little scared and apprehensive!) to see an extremely wriggly little being on the screen. Fingers crossed, all going well, we should have another little one joining the family in early March. All three kids are very excited. The boys reckon the scan picture looks like an alien and I guess they are quite right. They have a reasonably good idea of time but Islay hasn't got time sussed out yet so I think she's quite confused about when it will actually appear - for some reason she has started talking about Santa too....I think she's going to have to try and cultivate some patience - which would, admittedly, make her completely different from her mother!
That's partly why I disappeared over the summer as I was feeling awful, really quite dreadful most of the time. I'm beginning to feel a lot better now so should start getting back into the swing of things.
I have a few bee blocks in progress and a swap to show off and plan to be back to update on them in a day or two. Here's a couple of photos of work in progress.....just to show there is some progress, just a little slow!

Oh congratulations! I'm sooo pleased for you and a lot jealous at the same time!! We are trying for Henshaw no3 and its not happening quite as quick as Henshaw Nos 1&2 so I'm a little peeved but hey ho!! I too am midst a flurry of new babies approx 5 on the horizon from work colleagues so I too need to get busy!
Congratulations to you and your family! I hope you're now feeling better.
Beautiful blankets, I'm sure they'll all be well received.

CONGRATULATIONS xxxx
I was just told that my BF is pregnent, her first and I am very very excited for her. I've had to hide the credit card so I dont go mad buying loads of fabric, you know just in case its a boy or a girl! I have already had four friends and a sister have babies this year! Must be something in the water...which I am staying far far away from!
How wonderful, congratulations! Glad to hear you are beginning to feel better too.
Can I ask, the top photo, where did you get those gorgeous fabrics...I think I need some!
Justine - thanks so much. I will have my fingers crossed for you, I had a feeling you were hoping for a number three. JUliex
Kate - thanks!
Karen - I think four is probably enough too! Juliex
Abby - the top tree fabric which you probably can't see very well is just a scrap that I've had for years, no idea what it is. The second fabric is Erin McMorris 'Go By Bike' in 'red' - I have the 'gray' too altho' it's more like a soft blue to my eyes. I bought it from www.fabricworm.com but it looks as if they are out of stock just now.
The final fabric is an Alexander Henry 'sprites of tillbrook' dated 2008 on the selvedge....no idea where I bought it (probably about 18 months ago). And it looks like fabricworm has some on etsy just now (http://www.etsy.com/listing/26988909/new-alexander-henry-sprites-of-tillbrook).
Hope that helps! Juliex
Oh wow, what great news, congratulations to you all!
I hope your feeling ok, no way 4,
I feel like I only just cope with 3, though my hubby just read your post and said "she's allowed 4"
I think for me 3 is the magic number, though you never know!
Love your blankets and thanks for the info on the chenille, I was hoping to get some for backs of blankets, is it easy to work with?
Take care
Jenny xx
Massive congratulations on your wee bundle-to-be!! How wonderful!!
I am loving your new fabrics (HOW cute are those rabbits?!?) and I think your sketch looks great. Really, it's all that a sketch should be. Don't put yourself down so much. Confidence, girl!!!!
Jenny - its my husband who is the restraining factor with us, I'd have had four quite some time ago!
I've found the chenille really easy to work with - it does get a bit bulky anywhere it's doubled over but I've been OK as long as I've taken it slowly (even on my cheap and basic machine). Juliex
Lynz- thanks so much. My to do list today includes printing off the instructions for your stars. I'm looking forward to giving them a go. Juliex
Wow, big news! Congratulations! You will be busy soon! Love your fabric choices on the baby blankets too.
CONGRATULATIONS! What lovely news for you. Glad the scan went well and I hope you're continuing to feel better now in your 2nd trimester.
Love the top two blankets, very nice indeed.

Congratulations! I'm firmly done at 2, so I was already impressed by your 3, I can't imagine 4 but at the same time love the idea.
Love seeing your drawings, they are great; you have nothing to worry about and it's nice to see how other people work and plan their ideas.
Bethx
Many congratulations!!! Don't forget to make you own baby a blanket too!!! x
Beth - thanks very much. I am always conscious that a lot of people will think I'm mad! Juliex
Simone - good point! Juliex
oh wow , congratulations to you all x
