Evidence

Thought I'd better post some evidence of the sewing I wittered on about in the last post. I still haven't persuaded my camera to co-operate but have remembered that it has a memory card.....which works in John's laptop, so I need to be quick before he spots what I'm up to!

Here goes. Draft dress::

bodice

a zip (very chuffed!)

dress cut up to sundress length (unhemmed, and it still is, oops)

Playing around with crochet::

Charlie The Handsome::

Nessie The Swingball Player::

We have just had the most fantastic weekend including a night camping in a lovely location. I have some photos (not on my miserable old camera but on my phone - do you think the camera will get jealous and start behaving?) which I hope to share in a day or two.

Hope you all had a lovely weekend too.

I wish I could sew in zips! I have never sewn a zip in,in my life! I bet it is so liberating!!! Your little cats are lovely.

I love the colour palette of the dress and the crochet. Isn't the weather nice today? They're saying it'll be a good summer but then they say that every year!

Lynne - I'm normally a bright colour girl for fabrics so this is an exception...not sure if it will ever be worn but it is serving its purpose as a practice. For some reason with wool/yarn I much prefer more muted colours like these.
I'm just about to look out some sunny clothes for tomorrow - fingers crossed we'll be needing them. Juliex

Simone - very liberating. Mind you I did have to read my sewing machine manual! The cats do look pretty little compared to Gizmo but I guess some of his size is down to hair? Juliex

Julie the dress looks good and now I'm jealous about your crochet as it clearly looks more advanced than mine! Please share with me the recipe for that crochet so I can practice! Oh and funnily enough I too am posting on crochet this week. Justine xx

Justine - Will look forward to seeing your crochet. The problem with mine is that I now have no idea what I did. if I ever manage to work it out I'll send you a copy of the recipe! Juliex

The dress looks great Julie, I recognise that 'fabric' !...

The dress is beautiful, especially with the lovely colours you've used together! I've never made any clothing and don't know if I ever dare, it looks far too difficult to me!

As for the cats - what handsome little darlings xx

Hello Julie! I just read your comment to me. When I said 'little' cats I said it as a term of endearment not that I think they are small!!! I had 2 rescue cats for about 15 years before Gizmo. They hardly grew because they had such a bad start in life. Gizmo isn't that big really but he is heavy!!! x

Maria - yes, amazing what you can do with an ikea duvet cover....and there's lots left for something else! Juliex

Amanda - thanks. Its not that difficult, just a case of following instructions...which, of course, is the hard part - especially if you are like me and tend to prefer to improvise! Julie

Simone - no worries- they are little and are both rescue so that's probably why. And I wasn't insinuating anything about Gizmo either but he does look a little larger than them!! He's one of the cutest cats I've come across and we'd love a ginger one day. Juliex

Lovely dress! And good work with the zip! I've only ever done one, and that was about 7 years ago. Thankfully my bears don't need them :)

Abby - its so very reassuring that even expert sewers find zips daunting too! Juliex

Mrs MadHouse - thanks so much. I tried crochet last summer but got no-where - this time it made sense, so its worth persevering. Juliex
