A winter birthday

We decided to brave the elements for Islay's fifth birthday and take six of her little friends for a winter walk and explore.
I was a little nervous as we didn't know them all (some she's met since starting school) and I just hoped they'd all like being outside and dress up warmly enough.
Well, they loved it.  We had seven very happy little girls (plus two slightly bemused bigger boys and a sleeping Katie in the papoose).  They ran around, climbed, jumped and generally just did what little people should do.
We stopped part way and made a little fire.  A LOT of marshmallows were eaten and hot chocolate was slurped.
In the end we had to hurry them back to the house to have time to eat some party food - but obviously that was a very good sign.
John and I really enjoyed ourselves too.  Its great to see wee ones having fun and to know that Islay is making friends with such lovely girls.
We were lucky that it wasn't wet but it was cold and windy.  We had asked everyone to be dressed warmly and they all were.  Kids seem to be good at coping with most weathers as long as they are well-dressed.  So, what will we do next year?  No idea!

I've shown everyone at work this and we've all agreed this looks like a FAB birthday party. I know Holly would have loved this to bits (at five and now) and I bet the kids were thrilled to get sticks! And Fire! And trees! Heh heh. Nice job!

I think this is a perfect birthday. All too often we do things inside rather than make the most of the country and countryside we have. I love the marshmallow toasting and know my boys would love it.

Happy Birthday to your gorgeous girl

What a fun time for them all. A campfire is always exciting, especially when you get to cook something over it.

I love that photo with the children climbing all over the tree. Happy birthday to your biggest girl.

This is such a nice idea for a Birthday, so much better than the old wear 'em out style indoor play area (which I am guilty of!) perhaps I will persuade Charlie we should do this for his fifth. Happy Birthday to Islay. Bx
