I had a sudden urge to abandon all the things I should have been making and make one of these - a cosy bear hat (really it should be cozy, but I can't bring myself to call it that - sorry to all you folks across the pond).
I have had a beautiful mulberry coloured jumper of Islay's lying around because I couldn't bear to throw it out even though an unhappy washing event had left it completely unwearable. It wasn't big enough to re-purpose into anything..........or so I thought until I remembered the hat with bear ears in Oliver and S Little Things to Sew. I had temporarily forgotten about the book despite the lovely patterns, including the bucket hat I made for Islay.
I found some flannel to line it with - I'm not sure where it came from and it has really been hanging around waiting to be made into p.j. trousers for the girls. The hat uses so little that I'm sure there's enough left for pyjamas. I made age 1 to 3. It looked big as I sewed it up, and I was rather suspicious when it was finished. Let's just say that Katie has plenty of growing room! She does have a little head but I think the pattern must run a lot on the large side.I had hoped for some cute Katie photos but she wasn't prepared to help me out. Islay was, but we were rather distracted by the little monkey herself who was making another raid on Islay's soft toy dog.....and then teasing with an offer of handing him back........only to run off as fast as her toddling little legs would allow. And the scary thing is that she is only going to get faster and taller - not much is safe at the moment and the list is going to get smaller!

Fun idea with the hat, and great recycling job there!
It's a shame Katie wouldn't model it, but I think Islay did a fantastic job! Hope they are getting excited for the big day! x
I think I want one for me!
That is a brilliant idea. The moths got to a couple of my cardis in the Summer, but they are still so lovely - minus the odd nibble here and there. This would be a transformation for them.

A lovely the cosy bear hat for Katie what a shame she was more interested in the toy dog. Islay makes a good model! The pictures of your daughters are so natural capturing the a scene many Mums are familar with!

The hat looks great and I'm sure it'll look lovely on Katie when she can/will wear it!
I love your christmas robins in the previous post too - I'm sure they'll soon sell out!
How cute is that, I'm sure she will wear everywhere.
I wondered where you got that lovely sweater knit fabric - what a great use for a shrunken jumper.
I can't believe Katie's walking already. Look out world!
Oh wow! That's gorgeous, as is the rosy cheeked little lady herself!
I love that book, ever since I made the messenger bag from it - so wish I'd had it when the kids were small. The hat is lovely - very cute!
Happy Christmas to you and yours, hope you have a wonderful time.
