We had the most wonderful week away last week - my parents and I spent a week in Highland Perthshire, not far from Aberfeldy. We had a lovely rural house with a great garden and the weather could not have been more perfect. We all had such a good time - and John joined us, freshly back from Malawi, half way through the week which made it even more special.

I think that I have mentioned before that I am very lucky to have parents who share many of my interests. Or, rather I suppose, I share their interests. I grew up with precisely the kind of holiday my children enjoyed so much last week. Woodland walks, cycling, hillwalking and playing in burns and rivers. Mind you, I don't remember many of them being so hot as this last one! So, going away with mum and dad, grannie and grandy to my children, is easy and a real joy. As I said, I am very lucky.
I really want to post a fair few photos here as a reminder of special times - of course the real memories are far more important but I think photos help a little too. I know my children love reminiscing by looking back over photos - or laughing and imagining when they look at older photos from my childhood. Do you enjoy that too?
On one of our river trips we made a very special discovery - we found
freshwater pearl mussels. I'm afraid I'm not going to tell you where they were, or show any photos of the location, as they are one of the most critically endangered molluscs in the world - they occasionally contain a pearl and are suffering from
non-sustainable 'pearl fishing' and also pollution and river works. I have friends who have carried out freshwater pearl mussel surveys but to actually see some was an incredible treat. I still can't really believe our luck.

I hope your summer is proving to be as special - and that you are enjoying some wonderful weather too.

Love you to bits! Mum agrees, you've just had one of my childhood holidays ;-) all thats missing is a pic of one of the kids covered in icecream and another with a bird of prey / aeroplane... lol
Such a lovely place to spend such glorious weather! Very lucky family indeed.
Oh how wonderful to have a multigenerational family holiday and to get John back halfway through too. Pup is certainly growing.
Lovely holiday photos. The puppy is getting big already. Love the picture of Katie naked in the river, except for her sun hat - I have so many photos like that of my boys when they were little! Julie x
Lovely, sounds like a great week :)
That looks an amazing location. How exciting to find the freshwater pearl mussel. Your dog looks so cute. The final photo is wonderful showing all the girls!

Oh wow re. the mussels ... treasure so rare!
It looks like such a great holiday :)
Looks like you all had a lovely holiday, and puppy went also.
Looks like an amazing time the scenery is stunning. The mussles sound interesting not heard of the fresh water variety.
Your pup is sooooo cute x
What a wonderful holiday Julie :) Those walks look beautiful and Katie looks so cute in her little hat! Susie is looking cute as ever, wishing you lots more time to relax with your family and a great summer, safxxx
Perthshire in the sunshine is rather fabulous, as are the exploring kind of holidays :o)
Lovely photos and I can relate to the style of holiday, it's exactly how I grew up - it's my main wish to move back up North as I'm sad the boys don't get to walk/river swim etc as often as I did as a kid, sadly we wont be going anywhere soon. They do love visiting the North though, a picnic and play in the river being one of their favourite things. Bethx
