Summer-ing in France

Pretty little coastal town Cancale
Wow, this summer is fast.  Only 1 1/2 weeks until school goes back.  We arrived home from France last Monday (after a 700 mile, 15 hour drive from a campsite in Versaille - not much fun but we made it).  We had a wonderful holiday.  The first week we camped with lots of friends at John's best friend's sister's small farm, not far from St Malo.  We all had a lot of fun pottering, beaching and lots of late night eating, drinking and chatting.  All outside - we only ever ventured inside to prep food or shower!  On the last night 35 adults sat down to a home-cooked hog roast.....we didn't get round to a total head count of the children!
Waiting for Katie to wake up!
Oyster sellers, on the promenade, for which Cancale is famous
Beautiful hidden beach near Cancale - local knowledge is very handy

Mont St Michel - very very busy, but very very impressive

Mont St Michel's own Diagon Alley
Sanxay - Gallo-Roman site with well preserved theatre, bath house complex and temple
After a week of camping in glorious, but very sticky weather, we were ready for our week near Poitiers - we were lucky to be able to rent, at a very generous rate, a beautiful farm house from family friends.  We really enjoyed being just the six of us and pottering around the local sights and markets.  We didn't have enough time in Poitiers itself which is a beautiful old hilltop city.

My two funny red-heads - they are so similar in many many ways - this photo reminds me of these from last year
So, now my thoughts are beginning to turn to getting organised for school. We have friends and family visiting and staying over the next week and kid's friends over to play too.  It will be busy but I want to make the most of our time before we get back into the everyday bustle.  I'll try and gently ease myself back into blogging and blog reading and commenting - apologies to all you lovely people out there, I have pretty much dropped out of the blog world, I haven't forgotten you, just been taking a wee breather!  I hope your summer is going well and I will be in touch soon!

Looks like a fabulous trip! School here goes back on Wednesday, I'm looking forward to the lack of kids roaming the streets at night, but maybe not so much the traffic return!

Sounds like you had an excellent holiday.
We were over in East Lothian at the weekend. Thanks to your blog we found Seacliff beach, what a fab beach! We went there twice. I'd have never known it existed if you'd not mentioned it, thank you!

This looks like a perfect holiday. Great photos, too.
I'm still catching up on blog reading after the FQR, the rest of our holidays in Wales, and then a busy time at work, but I hope it's not too late to tell you how lovely it was to meet you :)

This must seem ages ago now but looks like you had a really great time. My two are back to school tomorrow, and I hear there is to be a 10 (degree) drop in temperature on Friday - that's going to feel a bit cooler then! Summer will fade fast, I fear. Bethx
