So many things to do, so many things to say and so many things to catch up on. I think the only sensible solution is to show you some photos of what we like best - family walks in our beautiful countryside. We had some lovely walks over February half term and, with all that is going on at the moment, I think we appreciated them more than ever. This one was a trip up Byers Hill (more of a hillock really) - good for blowing away the cobwebs and feeling a little touch of sun*.
I am becoming more and more conscious of just how beautiful East Lothian is. I have been lucky enough to live in some lovely parts of Scotland (including Argyll, which is arguably one of the very best) but East Lothian is home - I have spent most of my life living here.........and my children don't really remember being anywhere else. I wonder, now, whether I'll always think of here as home, no matter if we settle in our new location for the rest of our lives? Only time will tell. I am sure though that we will be very happy in our new area - it is extremely beautiful and we will have easy access to hills, mountains even, and sea. In many ways it is a Highland version of East Lothian. John's job will be in Inverness and we plan to live in The Black Isle......the exact spot is yet to be decided although we do have a few small towns (probably villages in the eyes of many people) in mind.
We still have a lot to do before we all move up there but we are getting closer. I'm hoping to have the house on the market within the next fortnight (just a bit more organising, clearing and decorating to go - and the final touches to our building work, which thank goodness is almost complete - fingers crossed). John and I, every now and then, look at each other and wonder if all the cost and upheaval is really a good idea, but, each time, we reach the same conclusion that it definitely will be. We think we can offer the children a wonderful outdoor life up there, not too far from family and friends (only three hours) and with a big enough population nearby that they can continue their sports and hobbies.
I have another sunny (yes, properly sunny!) walk to share, hopefully soon. Thank you all so much for your lovely words after my last post. They really mean a lot.
*Byers Hill is just next to our favourite sledging spot - look at all that snow, wow.....it was fun!

Wishing you and your family lots of luck with your move Julie :) I'm sure it will be worth it in the end, the Black Isle looks a beautiful place to live. I hope the house selling goes quickly for you and it all goes well :) safxxx
OMG i could have a friend living near by?? sooooo awesome. xxxxxx
That looks like the perfect place to blow away the cobwebs!
I have a best friend from school living in Inverness ... haven't seen her for years as it is so far away ... but it's an amazing part of the country, and a great one to settle in. Good luck x
Sounds like you have been so very busy, good luck with everything.
Goodness it looks lovely there. We've been unseasonably snowy in Vancouver and practically drowning in OXON. On our daily phone call Robert told me he got one of the cars stuck in the bog that's the top of the garden right now. He's Scottish and so I always think we should get out of Oxfordshire and go explore up north, and, being the Canadian that I am, and being so used to hundreds of miles meaning getting form one town to another thru pretty much wilderness, never think of anything to suggest a trip to Wales or Scotland. R being the sensible Englishman that he is, always points out the cost of petrol and the actuality of traffic, narrow roads and general palaver of travel in the UK. (Sigh) One day. :) Hope you all settle in nicely. Keep taking the photos and keeping in touch. :)
There's so much work involved in a big move, especially when there are children to consider but it will be so worth it once your finally settled. I have a friend who just upped and went on very little notice and she recently came back for coffee and chats, oh how well she looked and so much happier, she was bursting with news about her new home and how great the kids new school was, it was clearly the right thing to do and I am sure it'll be the same for you. Oh and I still consider Yorkshire 'home' and I even think of my boys as being Northern, which of course, they aren't. Bethx
