We've had snow here since mid December and although it has thawed slightly it hasn't ever completely abandoned us. Every few days we've had a another snowfall and last night's was the best yet. We woke up to a beautiful day with lots of fresh powdery snow. Rather than venturing in the car to one of our more usual holiday/weekend walks we just walked from home.....but it didn't look quite the same as normal!
We live on a cobbled street quite close to the centre of town but 50 metres walk in the opposite direction takes us to the river. I walk here every day with Kipper and the children. Usually Finn (7) and Angus (5) are at school and its just me and Islay (just 3) laughing at Kipper's antics. We talk about the magnets (cygnets!) and the trees and anything else that pops into a very chatty 3 yr old's head. I love our ritual and only very rarely see it as a chore. Today it certainly wasn't. Here's our street and the river at the end of it.........
I do hope we have more winters like this. Its such fun and I really don't think children, or even big people, could ask for more when they are off school and work. Sadly we haven't been able to sledge much. We had a couple of gentle trips before Christmas but had to be careful of Finn's broken arm. His stookie, or plaster, was taken off on the 29th and we now have the challenge of keeping an extremely active boy from damaging it while it strengthens up over the next month or so. I think we'll have some very fidgety days to come as the tenderness and soreness wears off - but we can still throw snowballs!
