Change of plan

Well, today was going to be a busy day of sewing to make best use of a few hours without Islay.....but it's all gone a bit pear shaped.

My plans included finishing the dress I am making for Islay and starting to make a blind for our stair window. Now that it is getting colder I really need to get on with it - having cleverly taken off the horrible curtains that were there before......I knew that would force me into taking action (I'm a bit scared about making the blind, for some reason it seems quite daunting, so I need to be 'made' to do it).

Anyway I, literally, haven't been able to get near my sewing table all day. I merrily skipped in after taking the boys to school to discover it is hiding under most of the contents of one end of the sitting room. The emptied end is full of workmen and mess - but it is productive mess, I hope, as they are sorting the fireplace ready for a new wood burning stove (they decided it would be best to pull back the carpet from the fire end of the room hence the unexpected rearrangement of the entire room).

The huge draughty fireplace has been there since we moved in and it has been taunting us with thoughts of a lovely cosy fire. We still can't really afford it but we'll just ignore that fact. It should make the, very big, room much warmer and the rest of the house too - and I think it is very hard to beat a real fire on a cold night.

So, I thought I'd distract myself from the mess and show you some photos of our walk last weekend. We had the most amazing crispy clear weather and a fun picnic walk to the beach.

Enjoy!

P.S. They have just gone for the day and I'm going to try to clean and tidy in amongst making some supper. It's been one of those days where I haven't actually achieved anything much but have been really busy and feel as if I have done loads. And, joy of joys, it isn't actually completed yet. The rendering needs to dry before the stove and flue can be fitted........roll on next Friday when it should all be done and dusted (actually, probably not dusted because I don't like dusting very much)...and, maybe, we can sit back with a glass of wine and warm our toes in front of the fire. In the meantime I'll just keep dreaming.

I am sure it will be worth all the upheaval when you are sitting in front of your stove next week Julie...Great photos of your walk xx

Sorry to read your day didn't go to plan but I am just a teensy bit jealous of your stove! We have a unfixed fireplace (donated by my sister) waiting for us to raise the money to fit it and I agree with you, there's nothing like a real fire. Still, this is our first year with heating in the living room and it's heavenly so mustn't complain!

Hope the rest of the fitting goes well. Bethx

that beach looks lovely , just the type of walk to clear the cobwebs lol.... now young lady , what is the point of getting a lovely new fire when all that heat is going to woosh out of the window with no blind !!! Did it work , are we going to make it now :-))

Enjoy your fire, I agree nothing quite beats sitting in front of a fire, I love the sound of the crackling wood.
